Cooltouch
TRUELY NON-ABLATIVE SKIN RESURFACING
Cooltouch is of the earliest non-ablative laser resurfacing and probably the safest laser we've ever handled. The laser hits the papillary dermis inducing a "healing response" with fibroblasts waking up to produce collagen. The cold spray and laser is so well synchronized that the laser will never injure the outer skin. Its main indications are for wrinkle and acne scar reduction. Although, these days, we use Fractional CO2 to reduce acne scars and either Titan or Ulthera to reduce wrinkles, Cooltouch is still very useful in reducing active acne and in minimizing pores when used in conjunction with Micro-BOTOX.
SAFETY FEATURES
Skin Freezes Moments before Laser Touches it. Cooltouch's impeccable safety emanates from its incorporating pulsed cooling and real-time temperature feedback. If it is aimed on skin that is above 40 degrees Celsius, the onboard computer aborts the laser just moments before it is fired. Hence Cooltouch is strictly non-ablative (no surface damage), and yet the laser penetrates very deeply to stimulate new collagen.
Darker Skin
It is safe to use it on all skin color types, even the darkest (African), because the laser is not absorbed by any pigment. Only water in the skin absorbs this wavelength.
OTHER BENEFITS FROM COOLTOUCH
Cooltouch not only reduces acne scars but the causal factors leading to acne. Sebaceous glands are "stunned" by the laser and some of the acne causing bacteria killed by it. It is thus very useful in the control of active acne and in minimizing post-acne brown marks (PIH). Read more about acne treatment and photodynamic therapy.

The motivation behind Cooltouch was to move from Ablative to Non-ablative treatments:
Ablative
The "gold-standard textbook treatment" of Dermabrasion use either a steel brush, the CO2 laser or a deep TCA chemical peel. These ablative resurfacing techniques will simply scare you out of your skin!
With the CO2 laser, your skin will vaporize leaving behind a red and raw surface to heal over! It takes months to heal and several repeated treatments is often needed! If you are Asian, then you will need to deal with either hyper or hypo-pigmentation. There is considerable recovery-time! Something not acceptable anymore in modern day living...
Non-ablative
The answer to this was the development of Non-ablative re-surfacing techniques. Truly NO RECOVERY-TIME, the laser has built-in sensors to abort a shot if it were aimed at skin already overheated. Of course several treatments are required, but each time the patient resumes normal life with enhanced confidence literally immediately.
Fractional Ablative
Coming full circle, ablative lasers are back in fashion again because non-ablative lasers are a little weak. But now only fractionally. This means leaving normal skin between the ablated areas so that recovery-time is reduced from weeks to just 3-4 days. Read more about Fractional CO2.
