HOW MUCH SWEATING IS HYPERHIDROSIS?
Many of our patients do not actually have sweaty armpits or hyperhidrosis in the clinical sense of the word. Living in the tropics, they seek treatment to avoid sweat stains on their luxurious silk blouses. Models avoiding sweat stains during a photo-shoot. A truly lifestyle choice we fully respect.
B*tox is also commonly used to reduce sweating in the armpits. The degree of sweat reduction is stronger than with subdermal laser, but the effects last only 4-6 months.
Trans-thoracic sympathectomy is an surgical procedure that severs the nerve that control sweating. We do not perform this procedure.
SUBDERMAL LASER
We can destroy the sweat glands in the armpit using a minimally invasive (key-hole) technique to pass an ultra-fine fiber-optic laser under the skin of the armpit. Whilst it is a minor surgical procedure, outer skin is undisturbed so the recovery time is also minimal.
This technique offers about 60%-70% reduction in sweating after one treatment. Over the years some degree (not completely) of sweating returns and some patients will repeat the procedure after 2-3 years. Hence it is a semi-permanent reduction of sweating. Although not as strong as B*tox in the reduction of sweating (close to 90%), subdermal laser last longer.
