What is Sofwave™?

Dr David Loh

Non-Invasive Skin Tightening Based on the Next-Generation of Ultrasound Technology.

Sofwave is a clinically proven, non-invasive treatment to help “lift” facial features and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

It is a skin-tightening and collagen-stimulating procedure that incorporates many advantages and improvements over previous devices.

It is a true “lunchtime facelift”, in that you could expect minimal to no downtime after the procedure and get on with your day. Each treatment takes only about 30-40 minutes.

Sofwave™ at a Glance

✔︎ Improved Ultrasound Delivery ✔︎ Minimal Discomfort ✔︎ No Downtime
✔︎No Risk of Skin Discoloration ✔︎ Quicker Treatment Time ✔︎  Only 1 Treatment Needed*

*With Sofwave, patients generally only need 1 treatment; however, some may benefit from an additional treatment on the advice of your doctor. It usually takes 3-6 months for collagen to fully form, but some patients start seeing results as quickly as 7-10 days. As with any procedures, results depend on individual.

How Does Sofwave™ Work?

Pulses of high frequency focused ultrasound are delivered onto the skin over the intended treatment area.

The ultrasound waves then triggers a response to produce more collagen and elastin in the skin. More collagen translates to better skin quality, less wrinkles and skin that is more taut.

The treatments are comfortable enough to be performed without any topical anesthesia. Sedation will definitely not be required.

Over the few weeks after just one treatment, improvements to skin quality and tightness will become progressively more visible as new collagen is formed. Studies have shown improvements to continue up to 12 weeks.

The Intense Ultrasound Beam (also known as Sofwave) treatment can be repeated yearly. Or more frequently, if desired.

Why Sofwave™?

Clinically proven technology

A multi-center clinical study evaluated the clinical effects of Sofwave’s technology on facial wrinkles, most patients were marked as improved or significantly improved 12 weeks after a single treatment

Safe and effective

Proprietary Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam SUPERB™ technology with integrated cooling Sofcool™, while ensuring no damage to the epidermis or to the underlying structures beneath the dermis

Ultrasound energy precisely passes through the skin’s surface, heating the mid-dermal tissue at just the right depth and temperature to rejuvenate collagen fibers. Patients can get right back to normal life quickly following treatment

No Downtime

Sofwave is a fairly quick procedure (30-40 minutes) involving no downtime. Patients can generally get on with their day post-treatment.

Treats all skin types

Certain skin types are more susceptible to burns with the different light-based therapies. With ultrasound procedures like Sofwave, the treatment is safe and effective regardless of the patient’s skin type

 The Sofwave Technology

Over the last twenty or so years, doctors have tried many methods to tighten sagging skin and remove wrinkles and lines on the faces of their patients. Sofwave has taken the best of each generation of these devices and made it safer and more comfortable for patients.

Non-ablative, non-invasive, no-downtime.

Compared to earlier ablative methods to smooth out lines and wrinkles, Sofwave has the advantage of causing no downtime after treatment. It also does not pose any risk for PIH or scarring that may be associated with ablative lasers.

Less operator and patient dependent

Compared with RF devices that work on the principle of tissue coagulation to induce the healing response, focused ultrasound technologies have the advantage that they are less dependent on the conductivity of the skin. Conductivity can vary a lot with hydration status and fat content. And different parts of the body will also differ in conductivity. In the older RF devices, the amount of RF energy delivered is also operator-dependent.

Improved ultrasound energy delivery

The Sofwave SUPERB™ technology delivers a uniform layer of focused ultrasound energy at an accurate depth of 1.5mm to stimulate neocollagensis where it matters. Hardly any of the energy reaches the skin where the nerves that sense pain are located. Hence, in theory, is it also more comfortable than older HIFU devices; But in practice there is still discomfort, but in a manageable way. Clinical studies have shown that 87% of patients experienced a satisfactory improvement in terms of skin quality and tightness.

Can Sofwave be Done with Other Procedures?

Sofwave can be safely performed on patients who have received btx and filler injections; Or even in the same session as these products are placed in a different plane of the skin or deeper structures of the face. Additionally, because Sofwave does not impact the pigment (chromophores) in the skin, it can be performed in the same session with many laser procedures
