Methods to reduce acne scars
Over the last two decades, there have been numerous treatments that help replace and repair collagen in the skin. The ablative ones have become un-popular (although many doctors still refer to them as so-called “gold standards”).
Newer treatments like Morpheus8 leave only a little recovery time. And when combined with a proper skin repair agent like Plinest (PN-HPT derived from trout DNA fragments), the results have improved.
One must have realistic expectations about how much acne scars can improve. But here are some combinations.
What’s proven effective
Acne scars area really a mixed bag of conditions. There are cases with superficial marks and there cases where there are areas of dense scarring. You may have heard of terms like rolling scars, box-cart scars, or pitted scars. Never mind the names, just have realistic expectations, and there will be a method to reduce their appearance.
The ablative methods like FCO2 have faded into the background because of the amount of recovery time it causes. All in the name of forcing new skin to grow, by fractionally destroying it. We now have modern methods like Morpheus8, with less downtime and better results, to remodel skin. Nowadays, we are leaning towards add-on procedures to further enhance results in acne scar treatments.
Of course there was PRP, which the Singapore MOH has banned, on the basis of it being non-evidence based. And just as well. Because out of the few cases we did, we found PRP to be totally in-effective.
What we find useful as an add-on to Morpheus8 is with Plinest. Plinest is an injectable product that contains DNA fragments. These DNA fragments increases mitochondrial activity to heal tissue, which in the case of acne scars, it is quite appropriate.
Also effective is Radiesse (Caha), placed superficially under the skin.
